WCB Claims

Workers’ compensation benefits is compensation paid in respect to an injury, disability, or death to a worker, under the law of Canada or a province or territory.

Benefits include wage-loss replacement for time lost from employment due to a compensable injury or condition;
A wage-loss replacement income is paid to an injured worker who suffered a partial, total, temporary, or permanent disability as a result of a work-related accident;
Compensation for future loss of earnings made to an injured worker who suffers from an injury resulting in permanent impairment or temporary disability;
Survivor benefits that are periodic payments to a dependent spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, or orphans; and
wage-loss replacement income is periodically paid to a surviving spouse or common-law partner to replace the income that a worker who died in a work-related accident or as a result of an industrial accident would have earned.

Workers compensation covers many healthcare costs. These include:

hospital expenses
specialized care like physiotherapy and occupational therapy
prescribed medication
dental treatment
artificial limbs, braces, crutches, canes, hearing aids and other aids, including reasonable repair and maintenance
orthotic alteration of footwear
replacement or repair costs of prosthetics, eyeglasses or dentures if they are damaged because of an injury
replacement cost of clothing damaged because of an injury
transportation and living allowances depending on the distance you have to travel for treatment
personal care allowance.

Some of these benefits, such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dental treatment and transportation and living allowances must be approved by the WCB before we will cover the costs. You should check with your WCB contact person to find out if you will be covered before going ahead with any treatment.
